Applications to Hornpipe Theatre’s Small Grants Fund Now Invited for Arts & Cultural Projects in Schools

Do you have an idea for an Arts & Culture project to engage schools in the PO area?

Portsmouth Cultural Trust, the stewards for the charitable affairs of the Hornpipe Theatre Company and the operators of the Guildhall, are delighted to announce that applications are now open to its Hornpipe Theatre Company Small Grants Fund.

The Fund enables the delivery and support of arts initiatives within local schools which improve the quality and sustainability of the arts offer, increase engagement and support learning inside and out of the classroom.

Applications for grants of between £250 and £1,000 are available which can be used as matched-funding for projects. Applications are invited from schools, organisations and freelance co-ordinators with a deadline for submissions of 5pm, Monday 29th October.

This is the second round of applications that have been invited, with funds previously allocated to Portsmouth Poetry and Artsreach.

Portsmouth Poetry are developing a cross-generational project between New Theatre Royal Players and Dancers (all aged 55+) and Year 9 students at King Richard School to produce creative pieces of writing which will be integrated into live performances.

Artsreach are taking workshops into five schools, engaging 240 students, to explore the themes of play and produce Hidden, a play which follows the story of Hayling Island native, Alix, and Samir, a refugee from Baghdad. The play will be performed in the Guildhall’s new Studio on Saturday 20th October, register online for a free ticket.

The Hornpipe Theatre Company, formed in 1982 and under the stewardship of Portsmouth Cultural Trust since September 2017, aims to inspire, entertain and transform lives through the arts.
