Hampshire County Youth Orchestra raises funds at Portsmouth Guildhall

Hampshire County Youth Orchestra (HCYO) will be surprising the audience at Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra (BSO)’s “Heroes and Legends” concert, with live performances in the Guildhall foyers on Thursday (9th March 2017.)

The young orchestra will be following in the concert’s theme of the most memorable music from film and television, bringing a feast of Hollywood glitz and glamour to Portsmouth, all in aid of raising donations for the Orchestra, who are generously sharing the proceeds with the BSO and the Portsmouth Cultural Trust.

The evening repeats efforts made at the BSO’s Christmas Concert in December, where the HCYO split into two groups to raise a fantastic £772.18. The donations enabled the HCYO to support talented young local musicians develop their potential, through offering bursaries and support to ensure access for all, as well as instrument purchase and support with concerts and tours. From the Guildhall’s perspective, the money supports the development of the free Creative Careers Road show, which will be going out to local schools later this year.

Hampshire County Youth Orchestra’s full season can be viewed at www.hcyo.org.uk, with concerts across Hampshire, including one in Waterlooville on the 29th April. You can help support the Orchestra and young people who benefit, who are now embarking on a new fundraising initiative to support a tour of Germany in 2018.

We are certainly looking forward to welcoming them back to the Guildhall at future concerts!
