Ports Fest returns to the city from 28th June – 2nd July!

An award-winning festival that has been providing cultural experiences in the city of Portsmouth for over 20 years, engaging with multiple audiences in Portsmouth venues and the surrounding areas.

Its ambitious multi-arts programme responds to the city’s identity as a commuter belt, sea city, and area of rich cultural history. Ports Fest is ambitious about delivering work of the highest quality that illuminates the lives of people from all backgrounds.

The following events will be taking place in The Lens Studio and Lord Mayor’s Banqueting Room at Portsmouth Guildhall as part of Ports Fest:

A Place Between (Workshop) 
Saturday 1st July, 10am. The Lens Studio.
FREE but a ticket must be booked in advance

Join Yumino SEKI, Japanese dance artist, Butoh practitioner and somatic movement educator as she explores the ways in which to connect to the inner landscape through a unique Butoh perspective with imagery.  This taster workshop is perfect for beginners who wish to learn a little about Butoh – no previous experience required.

Zine Making with Russell Olson
Saturday 1st July, 11am, 1pm and 3pm. Lord Mayor’s Banqueting Room
FREE but a ticket must be booked in advance

In this zine (“Zeen”) making workshop for 11-16 year olds, comic artist Russell Mark Olson will show you how to tell an eight-page story using a single sheet of paper. Quick to make, quick to reproduce, and quick to share, zines are a great way to make comics or illustrated stories. Bring your ideas and let’s get cracking.

A Place Between (Performance and Q&A) 
Saturday 1st July, 1.30pm. The Lens Studio
Tickets: £5

A performance by a Butoh artist Yumino SEKI, an improvisation that journeys through the transient moment of being neither awake nor asleep where a point of transformation occurs.  After the performance Yumino will be talking about her practice as an artist and taking questions from the audience.

VJ in a Day
Saturday 1st July, 7pm. The Lens Studio
FREE but a ticket must be booked in advance

Could you become a VJ in a Day? By attending workshops in live video mixing with VJ artist MOWGLI a group of local young people have done exactly that! Watch them showcase their newfound talents as they combine their own VJ sets with live DJ’s and performers. Produced with Resolume Avenue.
