Venue Hospitality Assistant

Location: Portsmouth Guildhall
Reports to: Operations Manager
Pay: £12.71 per hour
Hours: 20 hours per week (annualised)

About the Role

To provide a professional, friendly, and efficient service to for our conference and event’s organisers and delegates, concert attendees as well as providing excellent service to in house meetings. Working closely with the conference sales team and events teams to ensure maximum customer service.

Casual Recruitment Drive

Portsmouth Guildhall will be recruiting across several casual roles in summer 2026 – all positions are casual and applicants MUST be able to work evenings and weekends. Click the casual job role below for more information!

Team Guildhall (16+)

Customer facing role where team need to excel in positivity, enthusiasm and have a welcoming nature. This role can include bar work, catering/cafe work, front of house and ushering. This role will vary due to the nature of the venue, so a willingness to learn new skills and adapt in a fast paced environment is essential. (Applicants must be 16+)

Porters (18+)

Physically demanding role that requires good team work and attention to detail. The role evolves around the dynamic changes the venue makes in its layout and furniture to suit the variety of events it hosts. (Applicants must be 18+)

Volunteers (Not currently recruiting)

Join our volunteer team in being the face of the venue welcoming our guests, helping with frequently asked questions and guiding guests to their seats. This role also has the benefit of being able to watch the shows/events the Guildhall hosts.

Security

Applicants must have a valid SIA licence and be confident in a customer-facing role. The team need to excel in positivity, enthusiasm and have a welcoming nature. This role will vary due to the varying nature of shows and events the venue hosts, so a willingness to learn new skills and adapt in a fast pass environment is essential.

Housekeeping (16+)

Customer-facing role in which team need to excel in positivity, enthusiasm and have a welcoming nature. This role includes cleaning to a high standard with an attention to detail, must be motivated and willing to work in a fast paced environment. (Applicants must be 16+)

Stage Technician (18+)

A stage technician or stagehand is a backstage professional who builds, maintains, and operates the physical elements of a live performance or event. They bring a vision to life and ensure everything functions safely and smoothly during rehearsals and shows.

Work Shadow Opportunities

Each year we run ‘Connect’ our work shadow programme where we offer x10 young people aged 16+ who are serious about developing a career offstage, the opportunity to work alongside our technical team.

We are currently reviewing and restructuring our work experience and shadowing programmes for 2025, therefore are not currently accepting previous application forms.
