Summer Concert Series in Guildhall Square

The hugely popular Summer Concerts in Guildhall Square, featuring the magnificent Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, are returning this weekend, Friday 17th and Saturday 18th July!

Following last year’s successful inaugural events attended by over 2,500 people, this year’s concerts, which feature as part of a special Centenary Concert Series in celebration of Portsmouth’s 100 years of city status, promise to be an unmissable highlight of the summer!

On Friday 17th July, two giants of film music will come head-to-head in The Best of Williams & Zimmer, a symphonic spectacular concert of award-winning soundtracks from some of the most iconic films of all time! John Williams’ music from Star Wars, Jurassic Park, ET, Schindler’s List, Harry Potter and more will be pitched against Hans Zimmer’s tracks from Gladiator, The Da Vinci Code, Interstellar, Last Samurai and Batman Begins to name just a few.

Then on Saturday 18th July, the party returns with a Smash Hits – The 80s celebration of the era of new romantics, big hair and even bigger shoulder pads! Featuring the biggest tracks of the decade by Madonna, Toto, Ultravox, Elton John, Bonnie Tyler, Michael Jackson, David Bowie, A-Ha, George Michael and many more performed by the full orchestra and a spectacular quartet of West End singers, it is time to dig out the neon and get ready to hit the dance floor!

Pack a picnic, bring a chair and enjoy a night under the stars at the Summer Concerts presented by The Guildhall Trust (the charity which runs Portsmouth Guildhall) in partnership with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, and supported by Portsmouth City Council.

Andy Grays, CEO of The Guildhall Trust said, “It’s really exciting to see the stage taking shape in Guildhall Square! It brings back the memories of last year and how special these concerts really are. I can’t wait to see Guildhall Square come alive once again and it filled with people having a good time!”

Chief Executive of Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Dougie Scarfe OBE DL, said “After having an absolute blast in Portsmouth last summer, we’re looking forward to another brilliant double bill of music in the city’s central square this month. This time around we’re delighted to be bringing both epic film music and the best of symphonic ‘80s. We’ll see you there for Portsmouth’s biggest party of the summer!”
