New Comic Con Announcements

Portsmouth Comic Con is returning to the Portsmouth Guildhall on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd May 2027 for its seventh outing. Renowned for the high calibre of its Artists Alley line-up, the first comic artists and authors who will be appearing over the two days have just been announced.

Nick Abadzis has been creating books, magazines, comics, animations and stories for both adults and children for forty years, with work published all over the world. He’s been honoured with various international storytelling awards, including an Eisner in 2008 for his graphic novel Laika. Other highlights include Hugo Tate and a great many Doctor Who collections. He also works as an editorial consultant for publishing and a graphic recorder and visual facilitator, collaborating with clients such as EY, NASA, ESPN, and many others. His new book, My Beloved Other, an antiracist, comics memoir co-authored with his wife Angela Watson, is out now, published by Macmillan’s 23rd Street Books imprint.

Angela Watson was born and raised in Birmingham, UK, to Jamaican immigrants. With a career dedicated to the nonprofit sector in London and New York City, she spent years helping others before transitioning to her current role as a mental health therapist. Her diverse background and passion for mental health inform her writing, which explores themes of identity, culture, and personal growth. My Beloved Other, a collaboration with her husband Nick Abadzis, marks Angela’s first graphic novel, blending her unique experiences with a desire to connect deeply with readers. Her work invites reflection on mental wellbeing and the complexities of migration.

M.R. Carey is a writer across many different media. He worked as a teacher for fifteen years before resigning to write full time. His 2014 novel. The Girl With All the Gifts, has sold more than a million copies worldwide. He went on to write the screenplay for the book’s movie adaptation which premiered at the Locarno festival and was given an international release. He won the Philip K. Dick award in 2026 for his novel Outlaw Planet. Carey’s most recent work includes the Ghostbox miniseries from Mad Cave, Cul de Sac from Bad Idea, and The Lycan from Comixology. He is also the co-writer, along with his wife Linda and their daughter Louise, of two fantasy novels, The City of Silk and Steel and The House Of War and Witness.

Dennis Menheere is a Ringo-nominated comic artist known for his work on Star Trek, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Little Nightmares, Hello Darkness and a whole bunch more.

Dan McDaid is a comics artist and writer from Scotland. After a well-received run on Panini UK’s Doctor Who Magazine, he took on various US properties including Firefly, IDW Judge Dredd and Big Trouble in Little China. More recently, he wrote and drew the critically-acclaimed graphic novel DEGA, teamed with comics legend Matt Kindt on Dark Horse hit If You Find This I’m Already Dead, and drew Kneel Before Zod for DC Comics. He is currently working on a new horror western book for Oni Press.
