The concert opens with Schubert’s lyrical String Trio, a work of youthful warmth, effortless melody. Schumann’s much-loved Piano Quartet follows, combining poetic tenderness with exhilarating energy. Richly expressive and deeply personal, it is one of the great masterpieces of the chamber music repertoire. The programme culminates in Korngold’s sumptuous Piano Quintet, a thrilling work that blends late-Romantic passion with the cinematic sweep for which the composer became famous. Overflowing with lush harmonies, dazzling virtuosity and unforgettable melodies, it brings the evening to a spectacular close.
