Portsmouth Guildhall announce increased capacity

The venue at the heart of the city is now the largest of its kind in the South.

The Portsmouth Cultural this week announced that Portsmouth Guildhall has been re-licensed to hold up to 2,500 concert goers for standing concerts, growing the standard capacity with space for 270 additional people. This means that the Guildhall is now one of the largest venues of its kind in the South of England. Andy Grays, CEO of the Portsmouth Cultural Trust, says:

“Portsmouth Guildhall’s audience has grown with a staggering 18% during the past financial year and approximately 220,000 people have been welcomed through the doors for a wide range of events, including conferences, concerts and weddings. With our increased capacity we will certainly attract the big event promoters out there, leading to a further increase in audience numbers.”

Another exciting development is that the Guildhall will be moving their box office system to e-commerce giant Ticketmaster during July 2013 in order to provide its patrons with a more efficient ticketing service whilst also drawing in a larger audience with added marketing power.

The Guildhall is increasingly attracting bigger promoters, and has secured major international artists such as Bastille, Vampire Weekend, Caro Emerald, Jamie Cullum, Texas and Russell Brand for 2013. The Trust is also serious about its classical music offer and is proud to have booked the Royal Philharmonic and London Symphony Orchestras for performances in October 2013 and March 2014.
